Orthodontics in
Austin
At Longhorn Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we have a board-certified orthodontist at our dental practice. Orthodontics deals with the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of misaligned teeth and jaws. We want your child to attain a straight and beautiful smile, and we want them to be as comfortable as possible during the process.
Orthodontic treatment refers to a service or method that is designed to adjust the positioning of the teeth or the alignment of the jaw. Improperly positioned teeth or a misaligned jaw can cause serious discomfort for a child, and it can compromise the look of their smile. These problems can also make it more difficult for them to properly clean and maintain their teeth. The earlier your child receives orthodontic treatment, the better it will be! It will all be worth it when they have beautiful teeth and a stunning smile in their adulthood years.
Longhorn Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics provides the following orthodontic treatments in Austin:
Invisalign
Invisalign is an alternative to traditional metal braces that can provide the same great results in a more discreet way. Treatment with Invisalign involves wearing a series of custom-fitted clear aligners over your teeth. The aligners are tightly fitted, and over time they will slowly adjust the positioning of the teeth. Each aligner will be replaced with a new one about every two weeks, and this will continue until the teeth reach the proper positioning. The aligners can be removed at any time, so your child will be able to eat and drink whatever they would like during treatment. But in order for Invisalign to work, your child must wear their clear aligners for a minimum of 20 hours per day. Your children and teenagers will also appreciate the fact that Invisalign’s clear aligners are nearly invisible when worn.
Traditional Braces
Braces are orthodontic appliances that consist of bands, wires and brackets that are attached to the teeth. Braces are worn over the teeth at all times until treatment is finished..
The wires are tightened to adjust the positioning of the teeth and jaw, and the braces work on their own from there. The wires will just need to be tightened periodically in order to achieve the desired results. Many problems with bites, spacing, alignment and jaw positioning require the extra push that braces provide over alternative orthodontic treatments. And your child will be happy to know that braces today are smaller and lighter than ever before, and they show far less metal than orthodontic applications of the past. Once treatment is over, your child will get to enjoy the fantastic adult smile they have always wanted.
Longhorn Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics also offers a special Dental Assistant Training Program for our older patients. This is a fantastic program for teens who feel they may be interested in pursuing a career in dentistry later in life. The program lasts 13 sessions, with classes being held on either Saturdays or Sundays. We are happy to provide more information for teens and their parents.
