Sedation Dentistry in
Austin
Keeping children and teens comfortable while they receive dental treatment and care can sometimes be a challenge. We accomplish this task by providing sedation whenever it is necessary. Using sedation correctly truly makes the process better for everyone involved. Our pediatric professionals will be able to focus on providing top-quality treatment while your child stays calm, relaxed and pain-free!
Comfort is a top priority for us, but safety will always be the highest priority. The type of sedation we use will depend on the type of treatment that will be provided, along with the unique needs of your child. Please note that multiple types of sedation may be provided for certain procedures and treatments. Our sedation dentistry services include local anesthesia, general anesthesia and laughing gas.
Local Anesthesia
A local anesthetic is designed to numb a specific area so that your child will be less likely to experience any major pain or discomfort during treatment. Local anesthesia is also great for pairing with other forms of sedation that can better manage anxiety.
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is the strongest form of sedation we offer. It is designed to put a child to sleep until treatment is finished. This sedation method is most often used for our more invasive procedures. The easiest way to explain this sedation method to your child is that they will take a short nap, and when they wake up, their teeth will be all better!
Laughing Gas
Laughing gas is an easily administered substance that works for children of all ages. It is inhaled through a special mask, and it takes effect very quickly. Your child will feel a sensation of giddiness, comfort and well-being. The medicine is excellent for reducing anxiety. They will also be less susceptible to pain, making them feel a lot more comfortable during treatment. A major benefit of laughing gas is that it has a very short duration. Once treatment is complete, most children can continue on with their day as normal.
Longhorn Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics also offers a special Dental Assistant Training Program for our older patients. This is a fantastic program for teens who feel they may be interested in pursuing a career in dentistry later in life. The program lasts 13 sessions, with classes being held on either Saturdays or Sundays. We are happy to provide more information for teens and their parents.
