Tooth-Colored Fillings for Children
in Austin

Nearly every child gets a cavity at some point or another. It could be from too many sweets, or perhaps they weren’t spending enough time brushing and flossing every night. Luckily, cavities can be effectively repaired if they are detected and treated quick enough. We can restore your child’s teeth that have developed cavities with tooth-colored dental fillings.

Tooth-Colored Fillings in Austin

A cavity is a small hole or void on the surface of a tooth that occurs when the enamel is exposed to bacteria and plaque for an extended period of time. Although brushing, flossing and receiving regular dental cleanings can go a long way towards preventing cavities, sometimes they will still occur. The danger with a cavity is that food particles and bacteria can potentially use the opening to access the inside of the tooth and cause damage. If that happens, then the problem quickly becomes much more serious. Additionally, a cavity will cause a tooth to weaken.

In the event that your child develops a cavity, a tooth-colored filling will accomplish two goals. The first is that it will seal off any voids or openings and prevent any harmful bacteria from entering the inner structure of their tooth. The second is that it will restore their tooth’s structure and add some much-needed strength and integrity. Afterward, your child will have no problem using their restored tooth, and they will be able to brush it and floss it like normal.

At Longhorn Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we use tooth-colored composite fillings. This is an incredibly strong, safe and versatile substance that consists of a composite mixture of plastic resins and silica fillers. It is highly durable, and your child won’t have to worry about the appearance of their tooth. Our tooth-colored composite fillings look remarkably natural. We can even adjust the shading of the resin to better match your child’s teeth. Your child can rest assured nobody on the playground will be able to tell they had a dental filling!

Applying a dental filling for a child is actually a very easy process. It can be completed in just one visit. We start by cleaning out the affected tooth of any decayed or damaged tissue. The composite filling substance will then be applied so that it adequately seals off the tooth. We then allow the material to harden so that the tooth achieves the desired level of strength and consistency. To finish, we shape and polish the tooth so that it achieves a pleasing appearance. Afterward, they will have no trouble showing off their smile and eating their favorite foods!

Longhorn Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics also offers a special Dental Assistant Training Program for our older patients. This is a fantastic program for teens who feel they may be interested in pursuing a career in dentistry later in life. The program lasts 13 sessions, with classes being held on either Saturdays or Sundays. We are happy to provide more information for teens and their parents.
